Smoothies are one of my favorite things to make when it is hot out or I am just running out of steam. Instead of grabbing a cup of coffee, I whip up a smoothie loaded with natural goodness.

This one has a little kick because of a secret ingredient or two.

AFTERNOON SLUMP SMOOTHIE (serves two)

1 cup frozen organic raspberries

1/2 cup frozen organic mango chunks

1 jalapeno pepper, chopped and seeds removed

1 12-oz bottle raspberry-lemon DRINKsimple maple water

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

1/4 cup ice

1 tsp organic chia seeds

Put all ingredients other than chia seeds in a blender and blend until desired consistency achieved. Pour in a glass and top with 1/2 tsp chia seeds each.

I am loving this smoothie for ladies who are ttc and pregnant for many reasons:

  1. the maple water, raspberries, and mango provide natural antioxidants which are SO important during this time.

  2. the chia seeds provide some plant-based protein and fiber to help keep mama satisfied

  3. the maple water provides natural prebiotics which is key for gut health. The natural flavoring lets me skip adding some ingredients and saves me some time!

  4. the jalapeno and cayenne give the smoothie flavor without adding a ton of calories

  5. The natural sugars combined with fiber gives a natural boost of energy without a sugar rush

There you have it! Super hydrating, super satisfying, and super healthy!
